Balance Receives $15,000 Grant to Support Children's Summer Day Camp
Balance is honored to announce that we received a $15,000 grant from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation through the Otto Bremer Trust to support our 2026 Children's Summer Day Camp program (Summer Rec).
This generous investment helps ensure that children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have access to a safe, engaging, and inclusive summer experience where they can learn, build friendships, and create lasting memories. The Otto Bremer Trust partners with the Greater Milwaukee Foundation to invest in nonprofit organizations that strengthen the health and well-being of communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin.
At Balance, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, confidence, and sense of belonging that comes from participating in a summer camp designed to meet their unique needs. Our Children's Summer Day Camp provides structured recreational activities, community outings, social skill development, creative projects, physical activity, and opportunities for children to build independence—all while having fun in a supportive environment.
This program serves about 50 children with intellectual and developmental disabilities each summer. For many families, finding affordable, inclusive summer programming can be a significant challenge. Balance's camp fills that gap by providing individualized support from trained staff, allowing children to thrive while giving parents and caregivers peace of mind.
"Support like this from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and Otto Bremer Trust makes a meaningful difference for the children and families we serve," said Lillian Short, Director of Development at Balance. "Their generosity helps us provide enriching experiences that foster confidence, friendships, and personal growth throughout the summer."
The $15,000 grant will help offset program costs, including staffing, supplies, recreational activities, transportation, and community experiences that make camp both engaging and accessible for every participant.
We are deeply grateful to the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and the Otto Bremer Trust for investing in children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and helping create opportunities for every child to grow, connect, and thrive.
