Our Services

Individualized Services

As we strive to use resources efficiently by matching the support with the individual, we need to be creative in our service approach.

In addition to those listed above, Balance also provides the following services:

  • Individual counseling for those participating in our services.
  • Occupational Therapy: We have a registered occupational therapist on staff developing supports, therapy routines, and activities.
  • Balance has provided consultations to schools seeking to enhance the skills of their students in order to prepare them for adult life.

Adult Family Homes

We have several adult family homes operated by Balance in Ozaukee County.

Each of these homes is shared by individuals who require 24 hour assistance and supervision each day due to their disability.

The care we provide includes all activities of daily living. Each individual benefits from unique supports necessary to meet the complex care they require.

The staff to participant ratio is 1:1 for most of the waking hours and 1:2 during the night.

Pace

Pace is our Adult Day Service program. It is a community based activity program for individuals who require a high level of support due to their disability. The staff support provided through this program helps individuals to build skills, participate in community activities and events, build and maintain their physical health, and contribute to the strength of the community.

Over 75% of the time is spent in the community. We use local resources such as the YMCA, public libraries, parks and trails. We give back to the community by assisting with meal deliveries for Meals-On-Wheels, volunteering at other nonprofit organizations and churches.

Supported Living

Many individuals with developmental disabilities wish to live in their own homes or apartments in the community and do not require assistance around the clock. We provide support for these individuals through our supported living program.

This program provides assistance in the home a few hours each week with money management, home management, meal planning and other activities. This service is an alternative to more intensive living arrangements such as group homes. Most individuals in this program work in the community and pay their own rent and living expenses. Balance provides needed staff assistance.

Summer Recreation Program

Each summer during the month of July, Balance, Inc. provides a summer recreation program for children with developmental disabilities between the age of 5 and 15. This program pairs up each child with volunteers who spend each day going into the community for recreation activities such as swimming, visiting museums, zoos, nature parks and reserves, water parks, and much, much more.

The volunteers are primarily high school and college age students who devote 40 to 100 hours during the month to this program. Many students use this as a way to collect community service hours. Each summer more than 30 students volunteer to assist with the 24 children who participate in the program. Volunteers need to be at least 15 years old.

This program is funded through the Ozaukee County Human Services Department, the Ozaukee County ARC, the Cedarburg Junior Women's Club and donations from individuals and local businesses.
