Ozaukee County Special Summer Recreation Program
2007 is the second year that Balance, Inc. will be operating the Ozaukee County Special Summer Recreation Program for children with developmental disabilities.
This program is made possible with financial support of the Ozaukee County Department of Human Services, the Ozaukee County Arc, the Cedarburg Junior Women's Club and the municipal recreation departments. The Grafton School District has provided the facilities for the program.
Balance, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Ozaukee County, will be managing the program. Balance will be responsible for recruiting staff and volunteers, organizing the activities, arranging the events and working with the families and the individuals who will be participating.
Balance has been raising funds in order to expand the program. As a result there will be 24 children participating in 2007 rather than 22 in 2006.
This program will operate from July 9th through August 3rd providing recreation opportunities for children ages 5 through 15. Volunteers assist the children with the activities providing one to one support. Arrangements are made to meet the individual needs of each child allowing them to participate in each activity to the best of their ability.
Activities include swimming at various pools and beaches, visiting museums, state parks water parks, a retreat center and many other activities. Daily communication for the parents is prepared by the volunteers and staff and sent home with the children.
Balance, Inc. has been providing services to adults with developmental disabilities in Ozaukee and Washington Counties for over 15 years. It supports individuals in a variety of residential settings as well as in a community based day service program.
